Storybound is a bedtime story creation app designed for parents, caregivers, and adults to use together with children. The app is not directed at children and is not intended to be used independently by children.
We take privacy seriously — especially given that the stories you create may include details about children in your family. This policy explains plainly what we collect, why we collect it, and who we share it with.
Storybound is designed for adults (parents, guardians, caregivers) to use alongside children. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Reader profiles (such as a child’s name, age, and reading level) are entered by the adult user on behalf of the child.
When you first open Storybound, we generate an anonymous device identifier based on your device. This identifier is stored locally on your device and on our servers. It is used to associate your stories, reader profiles, and usage with your device — without requiring you to create an account or provide any personal information like your name or email address.
You may create reader profiles that include:
This information is stored on our servers linked to your device identifier. It is used solely to personalise story generation. We do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties for marketing.
Every story generated through the app is stored on our servers. This includes:
Stories may include names and details you have entered. We recommend using nicknames rather than full legal names.
We record how many stories have been generated from your device within a given time window. This is used to enforce usage limits and is not sold or shared.
For each story generated, we store internal technical data including which AI model was used, approximate token counts, processing time, and which version of our story prompts was active. This data is used to improve generation quality and monitor system performance. It is not tied to any personally identifiable information.
If a story request is flagged by our safety systems and blocked, we log that event (without the rejected content itself) for monitoring and improvement purposes.
We use PostHog to collect anonymised product analytics, such as whether a story was generated, saved, or read. These events are tied to your anonymous device identifier — not to your name, email, or any child’s information. We do not share analytics data with advertisers.
We use the information described above to:
We do not use your information to serve advertising, build advertising profiles, or sell data to third parties.
Story generation, images, and audio are produced with the assistance of third-party AI providers. Your story inputs (theme, setting, reader name, etc.) are transmitted to these providers to generate content.
| Service | Purpose | Provider |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic Claude | Story text generation | Anthropic, PBC |
| OpenAI | Cover image generation, narration audio | OpenAI, LLC |
| Cloudflare R2 | Storage for images and audio files | Cloudflare, Inc. |
| PostHog | Anonymised product analytics | PostHog, Inc. |
| Railway | App hosting and database | Railway Corp. |
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you have questions about how they handle data. We do not share reader profiles, child names, or ages with these providers beyond what is necessary to fulfil a specific request (e.g. a reader’s first name may appear in a story prompt sent to Anthropic).
Stories, reader profiles, and associated assets are retained on our servers for as long as your app is in use. If you delete a story within the app, it is marked as deleted and will no longer appear in your library. If you would like all data associated with your device permanently deleted, contact us at the address below.
We do not currently offer automatic account deletion or data export within the app. This is on our roadmap.
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Our servers are hosted on Railway in the United States. Asset files are stored on Cloudflare R2. We limit access to stored data to the people and systems that need it to operate the service.
Storybound is designed for use by adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Reader profiles are created by adults on behalf of children. If you believe we have inadvertently received personal information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
